Denis Shapovalov of Canada will meet the American Tommy Paul in the Round of 32 at the Queen’s Club Championships. The match will be played on June 14th, 2022.
Denis Shapovalov is the 6th seed here at the Queen’s Club Championships and is currently ranked 15th in the world.
The Canadian is one of the most dynamic players on the ATP Tour but has been going through a rough patch lately, losing his last three matches including First Round exits at the French Open and last week on grass in Stuttgart.
There is no denying his quality with his big serve and explosive groundstrokes, but he is clearly low on confidence now and will need a big result here ahead of Wimbledon.
Despite his struggles in singles he has been doing very well in the doubles an will hope that translates into a big week here at Queen’s.
There is a lot at stake for him here as he will be losing a lot of points from his run to the Semis last year at Wimbledon, so a defeat here will see his ranking tumble in the coming weeks.
Tommy Paul is in a similar situation to his opponent Denis Shapovalov and is on a losing streak of his own. After losing in the First Round in Geneva and Roland Garros, he lost his opening match at the Libema Open to compatriot Brandon Nakashima and will hope that his fortunes are reversed very soon.
While this match seems to be a difficult one on paper for the American, he will take heart in knowing that Denis Shapovalov is also struggling at the moment, and if there was ever a time for an upset this is it.
However, he has never won a match at this level on grass and it seems unlikely that he will be able to put up much of a challenge here.
